KOLKATA/BURDWAN: An NHRC team on Monday met Bengal DGP Virendra at Nabanna on issues related to post-poll violence, as the Calcutta High Court asked for a report from the rights body. Justice Arun Mishra, chairperson of NHRC, has set up a seven-member panel for the probe.
The HC on Friday had issued directives that police register all cases of violence and asked the state government to provide medical aid and ration to the victims.

The court also asked for a second autopsy on BJP worker Abhijeet Sarkar. NHRC officials discussed their mandated presence at the autopsy with the DGP. Sarkar’s body was brought to Command hospital from the NRS Medical College and Hospital morgue on Monday.
Another NHRC team went to Jamalpur in East Burdwan to contact some of the victims’ families. The team also went to Trinamool worker Bibhas Bag’s home. Later, they stopped at Jamalpur police station and visited Raina, sources said.
A team will be going to Malda on Tuesday and to Murshidabad on Wednesday. NHRC member and vice-chairman of National Commission for Minorities Atif Rasheed, who alleged that he had been assaulted in Jadavpur last week, said the rights panel had received many complaints from these two districts. He added that the commission could be contacted by victims or their family members.
