Two youths were arrested for allegedly assaulting two women constables on Sunday evening on a busy Rabindra Avenue in Malda town.

MALDA: Two youths were arrested for allegedly assaulting two women constables on Sunday evening on a busy Rabindra Avenue in Malda town.
It has been learnt that the two constables were on civil dress and heading towards the market at around 8.30 pm on Sunday. A group of youths was standing near a roadside tea stall. Suddenly, two of them started to chase and taunt the constables.

They followed the women to the market and allegedly physically harassed them.
A team from Englishbazaar PS reached the spot and arrested the youths, who were later identified as Anindya Sarkar and Samir Saha. Sources said they are residents of Ramkrishna Pally and study in Malda College.
Inspector in charge (IC) of Englishbazaar, Dilip Talukdar, said, "The women constables were just through with their duty and hence were wearing plain clothes. We have arrested the youths and produced them in the court on Monday."
