KOLKATA: A Chennai-based jeweller — originally hailing from Bhangar area and reportedly well-acquainted with ISF leader and MLA Naushad Siddiqui — has been summoned by Kolkata Police on Friday in connection with the January 21 clash probe.
The jeweller, Sk Samsur Alam, has now moved Calcutta High Court seeking its intervention.Alam claimed that he was “apprehending coercive action”. Siddiqui’s lawyers, led by Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, have stated that they would also move the HC in this regard.
Lalbazar would not comment on the allegation but said they were probing a “larger nexus” of how the agitation was funded and examining a few people in this regard. Police sources, however, have accepted that raids have been carried out at the residence and office of a few suspects in this case in the last 96 hours. “Statements recorded from witnesses and suspects are being verified with Siddiqui’s statement before a decision on the next step is being taken,” claimed a source.
