Police summon CAPF duo in Contai tarpaulin case
Contai/Kolkata:
SP (East Midnapore) Amarnath K confirmed that the two had been summoned after credible information that they were present at Contai Municipality when Suvendu’s aide Pradip Dey was present and trying to load tarpaulin on a mini truck on May 29.
According to police sources, Contai cops went to serve notice on the two jawans, who refused to accept it. “We have now sent notices via email to their commanding officer in Kharagpur, asking them to explain their presence at the said spot that day. If they do not turn up, we will mull our next action,” a police source said.
Dey, meanwhile, was produced in a local court after three days’ police custody came to an end. He has now been sent to judicial custody, said police sources.
The complaint, which names Suvendu and his brother, was lodged by Ratnadip Manna, member of the municipality’s board of administrators. Manna had filed the complaint on June 1 alleging that around 12.30pm on May 29, on the Adhikari brothers’ “directions”, tarpaulin worth Rs 2 lakh, stacked in the municipality store, was forcibly taken in a mini truck by illegally breaking the locks.
