Constable assaults ASI wife, held

Kolkata: The Golf Green Police arrested a Bengal Police constable for allegedly assaulting his wife, an assistant sub-inspector posted with Kolkata Police. The incident was reported from the Tollygunge police housing complex late on Friday night. Cops said the accused, Suman Singh, was produced before a local Alipore court on Saturday.
According to police sources, an argument between the husband and wife during the Kali Puja immersions at the local pandal turned into a fight.
"Suman suddenly began assaulting his wife in others' presence. When other cops tried to intervene, he misbehaved with them and even assaulted some under the influence of alcohol. The locals had to call cops who first detained Suman and took him to the police station. During questioning, Suman failed to provide satisfactory answers and was eventually arrested late into the night," stated an investigating officer.
Cops have collected CCTV footage from the spot to pursue the case against Singh.
