Kolkata: Prime minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate projects worth Rs 18,680 crore across sectors such as road infrastructure, railways, ports and shipping during his Brigade rally on Saturday, marking the finale of BJP's 5,000 km Parivartan Yatra. Ahead of his Bengal visit scheduled for Saturday, The PM on Thursday met Bengal BJP netas at his residence."I will be in Assam and Bengal over the next 2 days to attend programmes in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, Silchar and Kolkata. These programmes will present a wonderful opportunity to interact with the people of these states. Various development works will also be inaugurated," Modi wrote on his X handle. The PM met state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar at his residence. Sources indicated that PM reviewed the probable candidate list during his meeting with the state BJP netas. The Bengal BJP, in the past several months, spoke to a very large section of karyakartas over probable names for candidates. While central leaders conducted hundreds of meetings, feedback was taken from nearly 10,000 party workers in each of the 294 constituencies over probable suggestions for candidates. A survey was conducted following that, and state BJP netas sent the report to the top brass of the party in New Delhi. The PM will lay the foundation stone for a number of National Highway projects with a combined length of more than 420 km. These projects will include sections of NH 19, which connects Agra and Kolkata and transits Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal. It will also include a section of NH 114, which joins Mallarpur in Birbhum with Bardhaman.Apart from that, 5 financial packages for the 231 km Kharagpur-Moregram economic corridor will also be announced. Direct connectivity between Kharagpur and Moregram will reduce travel distance by around 120 km and save nearly 7 to 8 hours of travel time. The corridor will also integrate with key National Highways, including NH 16, NH 19, NH 14 and NH 12, thereby strengthening multi-corridor connectivity. The PM will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of a 5.6 km long four-lane Dubrajpur Bypass on NH 14 and additional four-lane major bridges over the Kangshabati and Shilabati rivers. The projects involve a cost of around Rs 16,990 crore. He is also scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several shipping- and port-related projects. He will inaugurate the mechanisation project of Berth No 2 at Haldia Dock Complex, and the rejuvenation project at Khidderpore Docks. The bascule bridge at the Kolkata Dock System will be developed, and bank protection works along the Kolkata riverfront from the Howrah Bridge to Nimtala Ghat will be carried out. He will flag off the Purulia-Anand Vihar Terminal Express. He will also inaugurate 6 redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Station Scheme. These stations include Kamakhyaguri, Anara, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum and Siuri.
