Pleasant till Tuesday, temp to rise again: Met

Kolkata: As the threat of abrupt thunder squalls with lightning predicted till Monday have started fading, Sunday’s partly cloudy skies and below normal temperatures produced the most pleasant day since Kolkata saw a one and a half month period of a swing from a heatwave to torrential rainfall. The Met office said that the pleasant conditions are to stay till Tuesday, after which the temperature may rise above normal by next weekend. Traces of evening rainfall on Saturday night pulled the maximum temperature down by a notch to 32.7° C on Sunday. A lingering chance of a thunderstorm with gusty winds remains till Monday evening, that may further pull the mercury down. “There are still moisture incursions entering the coast from the Bay of Bengal, presenting a small chance of light local showers till Wednesday. Before the weekend, the maximum temperature may breach the normal mark and settle between 35 and 36° C,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) scientist Sourish Bandyopadhyay.On Monday the skies are likely to be partly cloudy with a chance of an evening thundershower while both the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to increase about half a notch to 33° C and 24° C respectively.
