KOLKATA: Union home minister P Chidambaram is expected to meet state home secretary Ardhendu Sen in the city on Tuesday. He will be in town to speak at the National Conference on Leadership, organised by CII.
The home minister will reach the CII conference at 6.15 pm in Salt Lake and stay there till 7.30 pm. After the meeting, there is a tea reception, to which chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti and home secretary Ardhendu Sen have been invited.
This is where Chidambaram and Sen are expected to meet. Chakrabarti is not yet certain on attending the reception, though, as he is reaching Kolkata only later in the day.
No official meeting between Chidambaram and Sen has been fixed, and it is merely "incidental" that they will meet at the CII function, officials said, though they added that a formal meeting may be fixed.
Chidambaram will be received and seen off at the airport by personnel and administrative reforms secretary K Sathiavasan; he is the only senior government officer the home minister will meet officially.
Officially or otherwise, the state's law and order situation may come up for discussions between Chidambaram and Sen, said officials.
The Union home minister will leave for the airport immediately after the conference and may stay at the conference venue only for a short while after it is over, as he is scheduled to head straight to the airport. His flight for Delhi is at 8.45 pm. Since Chidambaram will remain at the airport for 45 minutes (he is scheduled to reach there by 8 pm), it is also possible that Sen may meet the him at the airport.
Sen and Chakrabarti were both in Darjeeling on Monday to attend the tripartite talks.
