CBI sleuths had arrested Mohta on January 24 for his alleged links with Rose Valley group. He has since been in judicial custody at the Jharpada jail.

Mohta had first moved the Orissa High Court after the court of sessions judge (Khurda) in Bhubaneswar did not grant him bail on February 14. The high court rejected his bail plea on May 13. He had again filed a bail application on June 20 and later filed an interim application for bail on health grounds on October 24.

When his bail plea came up last on October 29, the lawyers were on strike. However, his younger brother, Vishnukant, appeared in person and filed an affidavit, stating his health condition.

According to the affidavit, Mohta’s health condition has been “precarious” since he was sent to judicial custody. He had suffered brain stroke twice and was treated at SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack, and AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
