KOLKATA: Trinamool MP Nusrat Jahan Ruhi, while speaking at a party meeting at Basirhat on Saturday, said BJP workers should be chased with bamboo sticks if they came seeking votes. A video of the actor-turned-politician’s speech has gone viral.
Jahan said BJP had stopped central funds to the state and thus affected development; 100-day work wages had also been stalled. The MP said BJP had done nothing for Bengal and party workers deserved to be thrashed for this.
BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh said Jahan had made the statements just to keep herself afloat, saying she had “no importance” in political circles.
Bengal BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said: “She is an MP, she can’t say that she is politically illiterate. But she is speaking the way her seniors speak. Her statement in Basirhat was provocative. People of Basirhat will answer this befittingly.”
