Noapara MLA at BJP roadshow, ends return buzz
Noapara/Kharagpur: Noapara’s Trinamool-turned-BJP MLA Sunil Singh set to rest rumours over his ‘ghar wapsi’ two days after he sparked speculation when he, along with Bongaon Uttar MLA Biswajit Das, called on the chief minister at her assembly chamber and spent 45 minutes there along with Trinamool’s North 24 Parganas president and minister Jyotipriya Mullick.
On Wednesday, Singh led a BJP roadshow in his assembly constituency from Palta bus stand to Garulia Municipality, walking the 4.5km stretch flanked by BJP leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Arjun Singh.
“I have been getting calls from people, including media, asking me if I was quitting BJP. I have joined BJP and will continue in BJP,” the Noapara MLA said at the rally in Garulia.
Singh also announced that he had turned down the state’s security. “The state government proposed to provide me state security. I declined the offer. I told the government that the Centre had already provided me security,” he said.
Singh then told the gathering why he went to meet the CM. “I called on the CM to draw her attention to some pressing problems in my constituency. I went to meet her in public interest. It will be good if my making a request to the CM yields results. If it doesn’t, the BJP government will do the work after assuming office in Bengal,” he said.
Suvendu told the gathering that he had a talk with MLA Biswajit Das. “The CM, on the one hand, is saying it is better to have an empty cowshed than have some bad cows, and is wooing back Trinamool gaddars on the other. She asked Biswajit Das on the assembly floor about his decision. How could she say that on the floor of the assembly?” Suvendu said.
Earlier on Wednesday, BJP president J P Nadda said “it is time to bid farewell to the Trinamool government”. Taking part in a ‘chai adda’ in Dhadki village under Kharagpur’s Hariatara, Nadda said: “BJP has won this gram panchayat despite the goondagiri by pishi-bhaipo brigade. This anarchy will end this time,” Nadda added.
