NIT prof, who suffered severe burns, dies in Delhi
Durgapur: A senior professor at National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, Indrajit Basak, who had suffered severe burns when an experiment for a project with BTech mechanical engineering final year students on April 15 went wrong and triggered an explosion, died at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, on Monday morning.Following the accident, Basak, a former director (officiating) of NIT Durgapur, had been transported in an air-ambulance to Delhi after being initially admitted to a Durgapur hospital. He was admitted to the ICU of the department of burns and plastic surgery at Safdarjung Hospital within 16 hours of the incident. NIT director Arvind Choubey told TOI, "We have received the news of Indrajit Basak's passing. We are deeply saddened." Basak's son, Abhijit said, "My father's condition was serious. He had some comorbidities as well. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't save him." tnn
