"We have placed two earth movers to clear the roads. There have been no fresh landslide but cracks have appeared at 27th Mile. We are monitoring the situation till road restoration is complete and have imposed traffic restrictions and diversions," said Kalimpong DM Bala Subramanian T.

Along NH-10, movement of heavy vehicles, including buses, between Sethi Jhora and Rangpo has been restricted from 6 pm to 6 am while movement of small vehicles between 29th Mile and Bhalu Khola has been restricted from 8 pm to 6 am.

The rising water has also affected the ongoing PWD work on Darjeeling Road, leading to waterlogging and a halt in restoration efforts. The road remained closed on Thursday as well.

The ground floors of many homes from Melli to Teesta Bazar have been submerged.
