The My Kolkata, My Maidan project, aiming to give imaginative value-additions to the green expanse, has just got the biggest push to date.<br /><br />Unitech Limited, a leading name in the real-estate market in Delhi, has enrolled as the principal sponsor with an investment of Rs 50 lakh.

The firm has chosen Kolkata as its first major foray outside Delhi. And Bengal Unitech Universal, which will be the front here, has joined hands with TOI to make the Maidan a better place and give the city a Maidan it deserves.<br /><br />"Unitech, as a developer, has always been sensitive to the local environment and Bengal Unitech Universal has vouched to continue the practice in Kolkata as well," Unitech Limited executive director Ajay Chandra said. Well, nothing could have been a bigger proof of its commitments to the environment than a donation of Rs 50 lakh from Unitech managing director Ramesh Chandra.<br /><br /></div> </div><div class="section2"><div class="Normal">The strong sense of community feeling that still binds the city together is what has drawn the firm to Kolkata. The <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">TOI </span>project exudes a lot of this community feeling; the involvement of a superbrand like <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">TOI </span>and renowned consultants like Mohammad Shaheer, which not only epitomise international quality but also sensitivity to the local community''s needs, is a factor that has led the firm to tie up with the project, said Bengal Unitech Universal spokespersons.<br /><br />"I have grown up here and have had the good fortune to personally witness the contribution the Maidan has made to the city," said Bengal Unitech Universal director Prasoon Mukherjee. "We bear the responsibility of protecting and bettering the Maidan," he added.<br /><br />Kolkata''s lungs, with the entry of the principal sponsor, can now look forward to breathing a cleaner air. And people of the city can look forward to something they never thought they would have (a Zen Garden, a Sunset Garden and jogging tracks among other things) on their Maidan.<br /></div> </div>
