Kolkata: Calcutta High Court’s Justice Bibek Chaudhuri bench, newly formed to hear cases against MLAs and MPs, on Monday heard two — one each against Union minister
Babul Supriyo and leader of the Opposition in the state assembly
Abdul Mannan.
The case against Babul relates to an alleged defamatory comment against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra. An MLA then, Moitra had in January 2017 filed a case against the BJP’s Asansol MP under Section 509 IPC (word/gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) for insulting her on a media platform.
The matter has been adjourned till September 24.
The case against Mannan relates to blocking NH-2 in Singur. That matter too has been adjourned till September 29.
