KOLKATA: The National Lok Adalat held in the state on Saturday through 377 benches collected a settlement amount of Rs 343.5 crore, said Raju Mukherjee, secretary of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA). Around Rs 160 crore was finalised through commercial disputes settlement.

Mukherjee said that out of the 65,888 pre-litigation cases, 8,764 were settled while among the 2.2 lakh pending cases, 1.8 lakh cases were settled. As many as 2,359 cases of traffic violations were heard on hybrid mode and a fine of Rs 4.5 lakh was settled. Out of the 1.4 lakh motor vehicles cases heard physically, 1.2 lakh cases were settled and the settlement amount was Rs 1.84 crore.

The maximum benches were set up at the Alipore district court complex as there were 42 benches. Altogether, there were 56 benches in South 24 Parganas, said Subhra Kanti Dhar, secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), South 24-Parganas. The total settlement amount was Rs 172 crore by DLSA South 24-Parganas. DLSA of Kolkata Gautam Kumar Nag said that their settlement amount was Rs 75 crore.
