. The 97-year-old cartoonist was admitted to a private hospital on December 24, last year, due to several health complications. A special multidisciplinary medical board at the hospital informed that he is responding to the treatment, but it would take time to recover. “It is mostly due to his age. There are some neurological and respiratory problems and nagging urine infection,” said one of the doctors treating him.

Last week, the senior cartoonist received the mementoes of Padma Shri at the hospital from state ministers, after he had been awarded the same last year.

Notably, in January 2021, Narayan Debnath was admitted to the same hospital after facing health issues. “We are doing everything we can, and we just hope that he starts to respond to the treatment. Let’s hope that everything goes well. We cannot comment on his physical condition before 48 hours,” said Dr Samarjit Naskar,

critical care

physician.
