N-S services cut to 248 from 288, 70 added to Dakshineswar
Kolkata: North-South Metro services were reduced from 288 to 248 (124 in each direction) from Monday to add 70 services to and from Dakshineswar. For this experiment, the peak-hour gap between two trains increased from six to seven minutes across the 31-km New Garia-Dakshineswar corridor. In off-peak morning, afternoon and late-evening hours, the gap increased from 10 to 12 minutes.The first train from Dakshineswar left at 6.50 am instead of 7 am and the last train at 9.40 pm instead of 9.28 pm.Metro Railway had announced on Friday that all trains, except four, would leave from Dakshineswar from Monday, on a trial basis. Those travelling to and from Dakshineswar were happy. "There were more trains at regular intervals from Dakshineswar," said Sankar Malakar, who lives in Bally, Howrah, and takes metro to reach his office at Esplanade.
