KALYANI: A young Muslim man, Nasim Malita (27), donated blood to a Hindu woman while observing his ‘roza' (fast). The recipient, Sangeeta Ghosh, who suffers from kidney ailments since 2017-18, requires periodic blood transfusions. Nasim donated blood at a private medical facility in Kalyani on Sunday, exemplifying how humanitarian values transcend religious boundaries.

Ghosh is a resident of Majdia in Nadia. She manages kidney-related health issues requiring regular blood transfusions and needed an immediate transfusion on Sunday.

The Emergency Blood Service (EBS) organisation contacted Malita, a resident of Palashi, Murshidabad, who currently resides in Kalyani for his studies. Upon receiving the request on Sunday afternoon, he promptly responded to help the woman. Nasim immediately proceeded to donate blood, without enquiring about the recipient's identity or religious background.

With only five members, EBS started functioning from 2016. Subir Sen, secratary of Emergency Blood Service said, "Now there are 15 thousand members in the organisation. He added, "We started the organisation with a view to remove ‘brokers' in the field. Now we encourage people to arrange for low cost blood donation camps at various places. Sanju Ghosh, the patient's son, also donates blood through the same organisation and knows Nasim. Similarly, Sanju responds to donation calls from their social organisation without questioning the recipient's background. This instance of a Muslim youth donating blood to a Hindu woman whilst fasting highlights genuine human kindness in contemporary times.

Sanju, whose mother received the blood, belongs to the same donation network as Nasim, where both regularly contribute without considering religious affiliations. He expressed sincere appreciation to Nasim for his prompt help.
