KOLKATA/MIDNAPORE: The preliminary post-mortem report of the 21-year-old model, Bidisha De Majumdar, revealed that she died by hanging, cops said on Thursday. Originally a resident of Kankinara’s Narayanpur, she had been staying alone in a rented flat at Nagerbazar for a couple of months.
During investigation, cops found Bidisha’s friend and acquaintances were aware that she had been depressed. While her friends pinned blame on her male friend, the Midnapore resident said on Thursday that he had come to know about Bidisha on Facebook and two of them had become friends since then.
He said, “I will speak to the police if I am asked to. I got to know about her on Facebook earlier this year. I was a friend. Though she loved me, I told her I would remain her friend. She had tried to end her life twice earlier. She was depressed after failing to make through the auditions. She was depressed, I tried to help her. I still cannot accept her death. I was not aware whether she was going through any financial distress.”
“She had become a popular face in bridal make-up photo shoots with her active and good performances. She also became a popular actress on Instagram. I still can’t believe that she could have killed herself due to the depression over her career,” said Titir Ghosh, her colleague.
Bidisha’s parents, however, suspect foul play in her death. Her father Biswanath said, “My daughter had not been suffering from any depression and she couldn’t have died by suicide. I have demanded a proper probe into her death.”
“Prima facie it appears that Bidisha has hanged herself from the ceiling. A suicide note was found near her body and she held none responsible for her death. It was also written in the suicide note that she was taking the extreme step due to the lack of career opportunities,” an officer said.
