PURULIA: Raghunathpur MLA Purna Chandra Bauri met Durmut villagers on Tuesday and tried to get them on board regarding chief minister Mamata Banerjee's plan to include their land for the Centre's proposed freight and industrial corridor.

Residents of Natundih, Hurra, Durmut, Joradih, Bathan and Layekdih villages under Raghunathpur Block I in Purulia launched an agitation on September 6 under the 'Natundih Anchal Krishi Committee' banner, demanding the return of their land like Singur land-losers. They also submitted a memorandum to the SDO of Raghuntahpur.

MLA Bauri told TOI he could convince some villagers to give up their land. "I told them the CM has some definite and big plans for Raghunathpur and has announced that the state would hold its stake in the proposed industrial and freight corridor by providing land to the Centre. Unlike in Singur, Raghunathpur land is mostly barren and so, industrialization is the only option," he said.
