KOLKATA: The decomposed body of a 68-year-old man, who had been missing for 10 days, was recovered from a narrow space adjacent to his house at Netaji Nagar Sree Colony near Tollygunge in the early hours of Sunday.
Cops said the body of Biplab Kumar Pal, wrapped in a blanket, was rotting for several days with maggots infesting it. So far, cops could not ascertain the reason behind his death and they have sent his body for post-mortem.
The premises where the man was found dead belonged to his stepmother. Pal’s son Palash alleged that they had some property dispute and he suspected that the family of the victim’s stepmother might be having a role in his death. However, the woman denied the allegation and claimed that Pal had a dispute with his son.
On July 14, the man’s son had lodged a missing diary with the police. On July 22, he had lodged a second complaint, alleging that his father had been abducted. On Saturday night, some neighbours informed him that a foul smell was coming from the adjacent premises and he called the police.
“We are questioning several people, including Pal’s son. We are waiting for a detailed autopsy report to know the cause of his death. We are probing all angles,” said a senior police officer. Cops are also not ruling out the possibility that Pal had fallen down from the terrace of his house.
Palash told cops that he had interacted with his father on July 13 outside their fast food centre situated on the ground floor of their house. “As he did not come down for dinner, I went to his second-floor room and found the doors ajar but he was not there. His slippers, mobile and other belongings were left in the room,” Palash said.
