Kolkata: The minimum temperature in the city crossed 20 degrees Celsius after a gap of three weeks. On Wednesday, the least temperature was 21.8 degrees Celsius — five notches above the normal mark.
The Met office held “persistent cyclonic circulation” over the east-central part of Bay of Bengal responsible for the rise in temperature. They said present weather conditions added a high volume of moisture into the region.
“It has pushed the mercury up significantly,” said an official.
“We can expect a slight fall in minimum temperature from Friday and a gradual decline by the weekend,” said G K Das, director (weather) at RMC, Kolkata.
