KOLKATA: After the heavy downpour on at least two days last week, there current lull will continue for few more days. The Met office on Sunday predicted only sporadic showers for the city since at present there is no major weather system that can trigger heavy rain.
“We expect light to moderate rain in the city for now. The monsoon trough is currently passing through Malda and hence there will be more rain in north Bengal compared to the south,“ said G K Das, director (weather) at RMC, Kolkata.
According to meteorologists, July and August are the most active months in terms of rainfall during the monsoon. The normal monthly rain for Kolkata in July is 331mm. But this July, the city has received around 80% surplus rain.
For the past two days, the rain has been localized and sporadic. This, the Met office said, is because the showers are due to local thunder cell formations.Only a strong system like a depression causes widespread heavy rain.
