Medical Council gives clean chit to AMRI doctors on alleged medical negligence

who had been accused of medical negligence involving the death of Oyetri Dey. The two-year and five months old child had died in the hospital on January 17, last year following which her father Jayanta Dey had lodged complaints with WBMC.


The verdict on the case from WBMC said no deficiency of service and negligence on part of the doctors.

The girl's parents who received a copy of the verdict on Friday said they will knock the doors of the court to challenge the WBMC judgement.

The girl was brought to AMRI Mukundapur on January 15 last year with complaints of fever and bronchitis. She was admitted in the hospital as advised by Dr Jayati Sengupta, the consultant paediatrician. The child died in the morning of January 17.

Parents Jayanta and Shampa alleged that the child was given Augmentin injection after which she developed severe respiratory problem and

convulsion

. They also alleged that the Oyetri did not get given oxygen to assist her breathing and collapsed to death. They also accused hospital unit head of misbehavior and harassment.

"We were not called once during the hearing by WBMC. We will approach a higher body for proper investiation into our complaint," said Shampa Dey, the girl's mother.
