The college authorities received the notification on Friday which stated at least five lacunae in the institute's infrastructure. The college has to send its clarification within 15 days.

It was in August, 2011 that the college began its journey and the MCI gave permission despite inadequate infrastructure.
Malda Medical College gets yet another jolt when the Medical Council of India refused to give permission for 3rd year study. After the inspection of the college, MCI found huge lack of infrastructure in this college. They have pointed to at least five lacunae and the Medical College authority has to clarify this within 15 days. Principal Dr U Bhadra although confident about satisfying the MCI regarding the lacunae, refused to talk to media, "on Minister's directive."
It may be recalled that MMC had started its journey back in August 2011. That time MCI gave its nod despite the inadequate infrastructure as the MMC authority assured to make it up soon. However, in the next year MCI refused to permit the 2nd year study after their visit revealed that the infrastructure was far from being satisfactory. Hectic lobbying on the highest part of the state govt finally earned the permission but with the undertaking that MMC would complete the infrastructure within February, 2013. Accordingly team of MCI visited the college in April this year. But to their utter dismay they found that neither the infrastructure nor the teachers was adequate enough to teach the 3rd year students.

Sources said that MCI noted---1) No Intensive Care Unit in the medical college; 2)No Professor in Child Care Unit; 3) No infusion pump in child unit; 4) No car in community medicine department; and 5)No Associate Professor. College was asked to clarify its stand on this issue within 15 days. If the reply was not satisfactory, the recognition could be cancelled.
Bhadra said, "District administration had informed that as per Minister's instruction, I'm not to talk to media in this regard. But the faults raised by the MCI were not serious ones and could be clarified soon."
