KOLKATA: In second such incident this year, a tram driver was booked on Tuesday morning for causing grievous hurt to a passenger by accelerating while he was trying to board it.The driver of the tram, which was apparently rolling out of a stop at a speed less than 5km hr, was booked under IPC section 388 for negligence causing hurt.

Pinaki Dey (42). In his FIR, he wrote that he was about to board the tram near RG
Kar Hospital
around 11.30am on Tuesday , when the driver suddenly accelerated. Dey lost his balance and fell on the road. He sustained severe cuts and bruises on his shoulders and fractured his hand and the fingers of his feet. Dey is undergoing treatment at
Sanjee vani Hospital
at Baghbazar.
Doctors said his condition is normal but his pain remains. The incident has left the cops and even the CTC employees perplexed. “The tram, which rolled out of
Belgachia
and was headed to Dharmatala, was running on route one.We have to maintain the lever between one and two, out of the total eight. While the maximum speed of a tram is 20km hr, it runs at less than 5kmhr on lever one and two. We start rolling on lever one and hit the higher levels as we reach the bridge near RG Kar Hospital.It is impossible for one to get hurt,“ claimed a tram driver.
Cops said they didn't find any log entry on the incident at the Belgachia depot. Divers and conductors must inform the depot in case of any unnatural incident. Cops have sent a requisition to the
West Bengal Transport Corporation
to ascertain if an entry was made at the Dharmatala depot.
