Kolkata: Unlike previous years, Madan Mitra offered his annual

at Padmapukur on

on Friday, instead of

bank. Such restriction was a result of the court order that restricts Mitra within

Bhowanipore

police station's jurisdiction.

He is currently staying at a rented accommodation at Rakhal Das Mukherjee Road and isn't allowed to go to his house, to attend Puja, which falls under Kalighat Police Station. "I've been missing 'Barir Puja' since three years. What can I do? My movement is restricted," said Mitra.

When Bengal's former transport minister descended into Padmapukur, he was overwhelmed with his childhood memories. "This is where I learnt swimming. Now I can't even think of it. Its much dirtier yet the water is cool. It soothed my frayed nerves. It was suggested I go to a swimming club but I refused because they have unnatural ambience" he said.

A large crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of him offering Tarpan and captured his photo. Desperate to shake off his 'influential' tag, Mitra didn't take his associates along with him. However, Padmapukur club members arranged the spot for Mitra's ceremony.

His only solace seemed to be his grandson (Maharup). "I really look forward to spending time with him," said Mitra.
