Madan Mitra will undergo a surgery on Thursday morning at Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) to remove a tumour from his vocal cord. Sources at the hospital said general condition of the 67-year-old is good.
“He will undergo a procedure called microlaryngoscopy to remove a tumour from his left vocal cord.
The surgery will be conducted under general anaesthesia. We will send the tumour for biopsy later,” said Arunabha Sengupta, ENT head at IPGMER. A medical board has been formed to examine him.
Mitra came to the hospital on Tuesday evening with complaints of hoarseness in the voice. He was admitted immediately. Doctors at the state-run hospital had detected the tumour in November last year.
