Left set to sweep Bankura
ASANSOL: The Left Front has won over 600 of the 3,151 seats uncontested already for the three-tier panchayat elections in Bankura district.
The reason? The Opposition has failed to put up candidates for these seats.
There is no Opposition candidate for the 171 seats at Kotolpur block, with the BJP calling for a poll boycott in Joypur and Kotolpur blocks alleging Left Front terror.

At Indus block, the entire Opposition has demanded a boycott of the polls.
For the 74 seats in Taldangra, 25 in Patrasayar block, 7 in Sonamukhi, 43 in Bishnupur, the entire Opposition including the Trinamul Congress and the Congress has failed to nominate even one candidate.
All the three Opposition parties have lodged complaints with the state’s chief electoral officer, district magistrate G.A. Khan and superintendent of police Niraj Singh. “I have conveyed the message to the electoral officer and I am waiting for instructions, said Khan.
Bankura district CPM secretary Amiya Patra rubbished the charges levelled by the Opposition.
“Fearing humiliation at the polls, they are cooking up such stories and except for the Trinamul, the others do not even have a base here.
Lone Trinamul MLA of the district Kashinath Mishra said the Front had turned the polls into a farce.
