will invest Rs 1,900 crore in various upgradation projects, port chairman

said on Saturday. The port has already invested around Rs 700 crore in past seven years, since the Sagarmala project was kicked off, to enhance port connectivity in the country.

On the occasion of the Sagarmala project completing seven years, Kolkata Port initiated two major projects, which will improve efficiency and lower turnaround time (

TRT

) of vessel.

The first one is about rejuvenation of the Kidderpore Dock on PPP mode, with Century Plyboards (India) Ltd investing Rs 180 crore in new cranes and other infrastructure to handle bulk, break bulk and containerized cargo, that will increase its capacity by 3.6 million tonne.

Secondly, installation of third RMQC at HDC with an investment of Rs 52 crore, has started in full swing after the crane made by German organization

KOCKS

arrived from Vietnam. It will not only increase the existing container terminal’s handling capability from two to three cranes, but will also ensure faster turnaround of vessel.
