Kolkata Poush Utsav to be organised in Rabindra Tirtha
KOLKATA: ‘Kolkata Poush Utsav’, the first of its kind will be organised in the city from December 23 to December 30 at
The festival, to be organised by LINK UP, in association with Hidco and WBSRLM, will feature 30 women entrepreneurs representing self help groups from six districts of Birbhum, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia and West Midnapore. The event is being endorsed by Anandadhara under the West Bengal State Rural Livelihood Mission where creative handicrafts and handloom products would be in display and sale. This is to promote and encourage the leadership and marketing skills in these women to ensure dignity while earning a decent livelihood.
The Utsav will feature cultural programs where eminent folk artists and celebrities like actor Soumitra Chatterjee, danseuse Alokananda Roy, Kartik Das Baul, Srijato, Rezwana Bonnya Choudhuri and others are scheduled to be present.
A display of fireworks will conclude the week long celebration. A unique theme food pavilion serving traditional delicacies, sweets and Christmas confectioneries would also be set up to bring up the atmosphere that is normally seen in such poush utsav in Santiniketan.
There will also be some art installation conceived by Chhatrapati Dutta at the lawns of Rabindra Tirtha to offer tribute to Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
