KOLKATA: Multi-system operators (MSO), on Friday, in the city said that CAS would be more pro consumer. This was keeping in view that the state government’s stand that CAS favoured the industry rather than consumers.
"Fifty per cent of Kolkata households addicted to free-to-air Bangla channels will only pay about Rs 100 after CAS. An additional 20 per cent who will watch sports channels will pay less than Rs 140 per month instead of the present average of Rs 200," pointed out RPG Netcom director Dilip Sen.
Other MSOs stressed that implementation issues should be sorted out as early as possible.
However, Cable Operators’ Sangram Committee spokesman Tarak Saha, had a different take. He lamented that Kolkata was going to lose a golden opportunity to set the trend for other cities.
"With the state government insisting on a simultaneous rollout of CAS in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, we will miss out on the chance to show the path to others," he said.
