KOLKATA: The global health advisory committee of Bengal government discussed during their meeting on Thursday on how the booster dose inoculation can be increased. They discussed mandatory booster doses for people with diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney, liver and lung problems.

As the booster dose administered is around 37 lakh people so far, the committee members discussed how it can be administered to 70% of the population. Over 7.2 crore people had got the first dose while the second dose had been administered to 6.3 crore people.

The state has already decided to go for a door-to-door survey and campaign so that those hesitant can go for the booster dose. Also, the aim is to inoculate the bed ridden and ailing citizens.

Sukumar Mukherjee, a member, said they have also got reports that while there is a lackadaisical response from some towards booster dose, there are others who have taken the fourth dose. They also discussed use of masks, various aspects of the new variant.
