KOLKATA: Four members of a family from Tollygunge were killed in a
road accident when their car collided with a trailer on
Agra-Lucknow Expressway
at Etawah in Uttar Pradesh in the wee hours of Thursday.
Police said Arijit Biswas (29), an electrical engineer employed with a mobile tower installation firm in Gurgaon, was travelling with his wife Ananya and in-laws Srikanta and Kabita Maiti when the accident happened near Nagla Pai village under the Chaubia police station around 1am.
According to preliminary investigation, Dipak Kumar, who was hired to drive the car, had possibly lost control and hit the trailer from behind. Arijit and his in-laws died on the spot while Ananya and the driver were rescued by the police and were taken to a hospital. Later, Ananya succumbed to his injuries and the condition of the driver was stated to be critical.
Police said the family was returning from Lucknow to their Gurgaon apartment. The in-laws had come to the apartment last Saturday for celebrating Holi. Srikanta was a land revenue official at Tamluk. Arijit's family members from Tollygunge headed for Delhi to claim their bodies.
