“The accused stayed in Andamans, but would come to Kolkata on holidays and visit Sushmita. On April 29, he came to her

residence and demanded they get married soon. Her parents wanted to set a December date. A compromise was worked out and they decided to register their marriage on May 8,” said an investigating officer.

Pranab insisted on a social marriage and said he didn’t want to wait till December. “He returned to Garfa on Sunday noon to speak to Sushmita. The two entered a room and locked it. In between, he also had lunch. Around 4pm, Pranab left without informing anyone. We believe he throttled the victim as there was no external marks on her body,” an officer said.
