Kolkata: Doctors organise wedding in hospital as bride's father battles cancer

KOLKATA: A superspecialty hospital in

Howrah

organised a wedding at one of the hospital’s ward on Tuesday night, to fulfil the wishes of a 61-year-old patient battling with stage-IV cancer, who wanted to witness his daughter’s marriage.

on February 16. But seeing the condition of her father, Debotima and his groom decided to advance the date.

On Tuesday night, the couple exchanged garlands and rings before cutting their wedding cake.

But, since Sarkar’s was not fit enough to attend the wedding at home, his daughter, who is a research scholar I physiology, requested the hospital if arrangement could be made at the hospital itself for a short ceremony, as it was his father’s wish to witness her wedding.

department of NSH, Howrah, in addition to giving edical care to the Sarkar, played a key role in facilitating the wedding.

On Tuesday night, the couple exchanged garlands and rings before cutting their wedding cake by Sarkar’s bedside with few family members around. Sarkar blessed the couple before he was wheeled into the operation theatre.

Darkar was detected with cancer of the tongue since 2011 for which he was operated upon. But the disease recurred in 2017, spreading to the lungs.
