Kolkata doctor rape-murder case: 'Accused a sexual pervert, has animal-like instincts'

KOLKATA: The Central Bureau of Investigation's psychological analysis of Sanjay Roy, the only person to be arrested so far in the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case, has found him to be a sexual pervert. A team of psychoanalysts who have examined Roy and scanned his statements as well as the postmortem report of the 31-year-old rape-murder victim are of the opinion that he has "animal-like instincts".

The experts joined the CBI investigation on Sunday and started questioning Roy. According to agency officials, he sat expressionless throughout the session and narrated the entire brutal act without displaying any emotion.

CBI officials said Roy's presence at the crime scene was corroborated by technical and scientific evidence collected from the spot but remained non-committal on the outcome of DNA tests. Kolkata Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) had earlier claimed blood and skin found on the victim's nail matched with the injuries found on Roy's body.

The central agency is expected to submit a probe status report to the Supreme Court on Thursday.

CBI sources said CCTV footage collected from RG Kar Hospital showed Roy near the chest department ward around 11 am on Aug 8. The 31-year-old PGT doctor was present in the ward along with at least four other junior doctors.

Roy was seen staring at them for a while before leaving. During interrogation, Roy claimed that earlier, too, he had entered the ward and watched the woman.

According to the investigators, the victim left the ward and went to have dinner with the junior doctors. She went inside the seminar hall a little after 1 am.

The sleuths have learnt that a junior doctor entered the seminar hall around 2.30 am and the victim had a word with the junior colleague before going back to sleep. Roy was seen re-entering the hospital premise at 4 am. The investigators believe within a few minutes he reached the third floor seminar hall, where the victim was fast asleep.

Roy is scheduled to be produced in court again on Friday, when lawyers appointed by the state to defend him will meet him for the first time. During his earlier production in court, no lawyer had agreed to represent him. Keeping safety concerns in mind, the central agency is considering virtual hearing on the subsequent dates.
