Basak was hospitalized on October 7 with high fever. His condition remained stable for the next four days but it suddenly worsened on October 11, leading to his death in six hours. His death certificate mentioned "severe dengue shock" as a cause of death. Roy was hospitalized on October 5 with dengue and anaemia. Her condition didn't improve despite a week's treatment, said sources.

Mayor Firhad Hakim on Friday announced several anti-dengue measures, including restrictions on constructions to prevent accumulation of water.
