KOLKATA: The next time your ATM screen goes blank after you swipe the debit card, be careful. It could be the handiwork of fraudsters out to withdraw cash form your account once you leave the place thinking that the machine has conked. All it takes the swindlers to leave you poorer is a bit of adhesive and a small screwdriver.
After nabbing five such inter-state swindlers from the city, Kolkata Police on Monday zeroed in on two others, catching them red-handed.
Sajid Hussain (22) and Mohammad Rustam (25) were arrested after they were found trying the trick in an SBI ATM counter near the Central metro station.
"Both hail from Sultanpur in UP. Rs 33,000 was recovered from them," said Joint CP (crime) Damayanti Sen.
The trick though can only be applied on ATMs that require the customer to insert and extract the card to start operations.
