Kolkata: 5-year jail for Nigerian in fraud case

An Alipore court on Friday sent a Nigerian national, Vincent Collins Otto, to jail for five years and ordered him to pay Rs 20 lakh as compensation to the complainant whom he had duped of Rs 18 lakh.

KOLKATA: An Alipore court on Friday sent a Nigerian national, Vincent Collins Otto, to jail for five years and ordered him to pay Rs 20 lakh as compensation to the complainant whom he had duped of Rs 18 lakh. He faces six months' imprisonment on failing to pay the compensation.
The convict had introduced himself as Barry Williams, a European, and spoke to the complainant through social media and allured him with a false assurance of investing £30,000 for producing a short film in India in 2015.

Believing upon such false representation, the complainant paid Rs 18,79, 600 to different bank accounts provided by the fraudster. After investigation, the Nigerian was arrested from Mehrauli in New Delhi in July 2015.
