KOLKATA: After the thrills and spills of Aquatica, yet another place to cool off is coming up in Kolkata soon.
A brand new water amusement park is being built by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority at the intersection of Eastern Metopolitan Byepass and the Rashbehari Avenue connector.
An 18 acre stretch close to the Ruby General Hospital has been earmarked for the park.
This is first project of its kind being taken up by the KMDA, until now involved with the prosaic business of setting up houses and marketing complexes, roads, water supply and such other conventional utilities.
“A unique feature of the park will be an underground glass tunnel linking two water bodies spread over seven acres and five acres respectively. Apart from food stalls, and an open air floating restaurant, visitors will also get a taste of the wild in miniature in an artificial tropical island complete with waterfalls and a man made jungle. Attractions will include a ropeway, toy train, a lily pool, an ornamental walkway, an open air theatre, and a children’s arena. KMDA is also planning a three acre recreational area- the Satyajit Ray Park in the Baishnabghata- Patuli township. This, too, will include a lake and a pool, a health club and a theatre, eateries and gardens. Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has expressed the hope that the new townships on the Byepass would provide their residents with “total civic satisfaction.
