councillor Rajesh Sinha raised the issue at the KMC monthly meeting on Friday. Sinha said he was getting several requests from citizens and tourists paying a visit to the grade-I heritage building to keep the area clean and encroachment-free. “The environment inside the building is just the opposite — it is so well maintained. But when a visitor steps out, he or she finds a different world. Narrow, encroached lanes, lack of cleanliness and rows of cars parked without following rules,” Sinha said.
Member, mayor-in-council Debasish Kumar said a search was on to find the number of cars being parked without taking licence from the police and the KMC car parking department. “We decided to initiate a joint drive with cops to keep the Thakurbari area free of encroachment,” Kumar said.
