Tribute to Kanika Bandyopadhyay on her 100th birth anniversary

Kolkata: Cultural research institute Surnandan Bharati celebrated the birth centenary of the legendary Rabindra Sangeet exponent Kanika Bandopadhyay at Indumati Sabha Griha at Jadavpur University on Dec 5. The Kanika Memorial Award was bestowed on Rabindra sangeet exponent Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta by Pandit Mallar Ghosh, London-based poet-painter-baul artist Papia Ghoshal, tabla guru Pandit Kalyan Deka, dancer Samir Gupta, musician Amit Dutta of Assam, dancer Jayalakshmi Arun of Kerala and others. Other distinguished musical personalities from Kerala, Tripura, Assam and Bengal were also honoured for their contributions to the field of art and culture.
This was followed by the release of a book titled ‘Rabindrik Kanika', edited by Ritish Ranjan Chakraborty, all-India secretary of Surnandan Bharati. Chakraborty stressed the importance of being a good human being first to become an accomplished artist. "Surnandan Bharati is trying to create an atmosphere of love and humanity through art and culture," he said.
The 31st All India Conference of Surnandan Bharati, held at Gyan Manch on Dec 6, was inaugurated by Jayalakshmi Arun, an eminent dancer and choreographer from Kerala.
