JU receives record UG applications
JU applications
Kolkata: Jadavpur University (JU) has received a higher number of undergraduate applications this year compared to last year. The arts faculty has received 6,243 applications, 996 more than last year’s 5,238. The science faculty’s 5,034 applications are 1,112 more than last year’s. JU opened its admission portal on May 20, just after the higher secondary results were published. Teachers felt that opening the admission portal on time helped in drawing more applications this year. Last year, the admission portal opened in the first week of July.Physics professor and JUTA general secretary Partha Pratim Ray said, “The number of applications this year is higher than last year’s because the admission portal opened on time. Last year, due to OBC-related legal problem, the admission portal opened late, which led to dip in admissions.”History department professor Maroona Murmu said, “The JU admission portal opened this year along with the admission portal of other institutes, like Presidency and the centralised admission portal. Last time, when we began our admission, many students had already sought admission elsewhere. So, I feel that due to opening of the portal on time, the applications are higher this year.”
