Joining BJP today, says West Bengal MP Arjun Singh who was denied TMC ticket

KOLKATA: Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh has declared he will join BJP in Delhi on Friday, inviting a "use and throw" barb from TMC that denied him ticket from Bengal LS seat in spite of him having switched to two years ago after winning in 2019 as a saffron party nominee.

Singh said a "senior TMC leader" will join BJP with him. This coincided with his nephew Sourav Singh being named chief poll agent of Partha Bhowmick, TMC's Barrackpore candidate this time.

As per sources, Singh was part of a late-night meet of state and central BJP leaders. During the session, the MP decided to shift allegiance. Despite defecting to TMC in 2022, Singh has officially remained a BJP MP all this time. Objections were raised by some leaders at the meeting, but those who sought Singh's return prevailed. State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari was among those who wanted him back in BJP.
