“I am thrilled. I readily agreed to the proposal of the secretary-general when he approached me,” said Chowdhury, who will begin his work next month. Chowdhury is the first “artist in residence” at Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of the “In-Residence Scheme for Writers and Artists” which has been started by President Pranab Mukherjee. Incidentally, his first stint in Delhi was also at Rashtrapati Bhavan back in 1972, where he was the curator of art for 15 years.
While most of his fellow parliamentarians draw on their debating skills, Chowdhury prefers to draw his debating colleagues. Chowdhury, also a master of line drawing, has been closely observing fellow members of the Upper House and sketching them.
