Jhimli - La Martiniere case referred to new judge

, has assigned the

hearing

of the

case

of the deposed governors of

La Martiniere

schools board versus the present board to the court of Justice Arindam Sinha. The hearing had originally been scheduled in the court of Justice Ashish Chakraborty.

Justice Chakraborty however, expressed his unwillingness to hear the case on “personal grounds” on Tuesday. The matter was left to the Chief Justice to decide which judge he would assign the matter to. Later in the afternoon, the case was assigned to the court of Justice Sinha. The case might come up for hearing on Wednesday.

Anil Mukherjee, Gerry Arathoon, Suchitra Guha and Anjali Das were the four governors of the board, who were deposed from their positions on June 18 by two ex-officio governors — Bishop Paritosh Canning of the Kolkata diocese and priest Swarup Bar of St Andrews Church. The previous day, the then secretary of the school, Shane Calvert, was removed by the two ex-officio governors. The deposed governors challenged this decision on the ground that it was done without their consent.
