Insurance cos start settling claims

Kolkata: LIC has started settling the claims of Coromandel Express accident victims. The largest life insurer in the country has already settled three death claims, all of which are from Bengal. LIC along with all the leading life insurers have already relaxed claim settlement procedures for the victims. The zonal manager of LIC, Ajay Kumar, said that it has already requested railways to provide a detail list of casualties. “As soon as we get the official list, we shall be proactive to settle the claims,” he said.LIC officials said that so far it has got claims for four policies related to three people died in the accident and all have been settled. The first policy was settled as early as June 6, within 24 hours of the accident, which belongs to a passenger from Jalpaiguri. The other policies settled were from Katwa and Garbeta. “All these policies were settled within June 7. The age of all these three policy holders were within 35-26 years. We could settle it so fast because we simplified the claim procedure,” an official added. He also said LIC has set up kiosk in Howrah station and Kharagpur to expedite claim settlement. “We have also created separate cells in all divisional offices for speedy settlement of claims,” he added.Some other leading life insurers like ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Bajaj Allianz Life, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Life have relaxed procedures for speedy settlement of death claims in this case. “ICICI Prudential Life Insurance has relaxed claim settlement process for families impacted by the Odisha train accident,”,” it has stated. SBI Life said that to mitigate hardships of claimants of SBI Life policies, it has taken immediate steps to ease the claim settlement process.
