Kolkata: A 10-storey boys’ hostel that can accommodate 1,000 students will be ready by June 2024, said IIEST director Parthasarathi Chakrabarti at the convocation on Friday.
“It will be a single-occupancy hostel and is expected to be handed over by June 2024,” said Chakrabarti. The director added that a five-storey building for laboratories and classrooms will also come up in the new year and renovation of halls, hostels and residential quarters are underway.
Chakrabarti added that the placement record of the institute has been “satisfactory”. Board of governors chairperson Tajaswini Ananth Kumar spoke about the rich legacy of the institute. The chief guest was former chief designer of India’s fourth-generation fighter, light combat aircraft Tejas Programme and chairman, board of governors, IIT (BHU), Varanasi Kota Harinarayana. “The scientists, researchers and academics should address the future need of the society. IIEST can make a contribution in precision agriculture with help of drones, AI and by collaborating with agricultural scientists,” Harinarayana said.
